Academic Half Day

The Neurosurgery Residency Program Academic Half Day takes place every Friday from 07:00-14:00. The Half Day is protected time which includes: Neuroscience Rounds, Neurosurgery Curriculum Sessions, Journal Club, Neuropathology Rounds, Adult Neuro-Oncology Rounds, and Pediatric Neuro-Oncology Rounds.

 

Neuroscience Rounds

Neuroscience Rounds represent combined Grand Rounds for the Sections of Neurosurgery and Neurology. Sessions are held every Friday morning beginning with a case-based Resident presentation for the first hour, followed by a Faculty-lead didactic presentation for the second hour of rounds.

 

Neurosurgery Curriculum

Formal Neurosurgery Curriculum Sessions take place every Friday following Neuroscience Rounds. These sessions are conducted jointly via live webcast with the University of Saskatchewan Neurosurgery Residency Program.

The Curriculum is "block" based and an exam is held at the end of each block. Curriculum blocks include:

  • Spine
  • Pediatric Neurosurgery
  • Vascular Neurosurgery
  • Neuro-Oncology
  • Functional and Epilepsy
  • Trauma
  • Ethics

 

Additional Rounds & Sessions

Additional weekly rounds and sessions include: Anatomy Sessions, Refractory Epilepsy Conference, Gamma Knife Rounds, Stroke Rounds, Pediatric Neurosurgery Rounds, Vascular Rounds, Winnipeg Spine Program Rounds, Morbidity and Mortality Rounds, Practice Oral Sessions and Department of Surgery Grand Rounds.

These sessions are consistently held on Monday mornings, Monday afternoons, Wednesday mornings and Friday afternoons.
